What is a sub-site?

A sub-site, also known as a folder is a website address that "piggy-backs" off your existing domain name.   For example, yourbusinessname.com/membersonly.  (The folder in this example is membersonly, and the main website is yourbusinessname.com).  For our purposes a sub-site will be defined as used within your SiteBuilder product.

Depending on the Package you purchase, you can create multiple sub-sites.  A 100 Page Pack allows you to create 10 sub-sites.  The Unlimited Pages Pack allows you to create an unlimited number of sub-sites.

Creating sub-sites easily and managing them can be an extremely powerful feature.  For example, if you have multiple businesses and you want to build and manage a website for each in one location, the sub-site feature in Pro-Website Builder 2 is perfect.

Reasons To Create Sub-Sites:  There are many reasons to create sub-sites.  Let’s discuss a few reasons and provide two examples of how sub-sites may be used.

Example 1:  One reason is if you create a members only area within your existing website and you optionally want to password protect that area (because you’ve included some personal information like phone numbers).

Example 2:  Reason 2 to create a sub-site:  You have more than one business with separate web addresses and you want to create and manage those websites in one location.  Sound too good to be true?   With our SiteBuilder, you can manage multiple websites all in one location and one price.  Here’s how it works:

Remember when we published our sub-site in example 1? (you must read example 1 first).  This time we’ve created another sub-site and named it yourbusinessname.com/BusinessA when we published it.  Let’s assume Business A has or will soon have its own web address, i.e. businessA.com.  The next step is to use a feature called domain forwarding (a domain name service feature).   For example, when this feature is used, if anyone enters the web address www.businessA.com in their browser they are automatically fowarded to your sub-site, yourbusinessname.com/businessA.  And when frame or standard forwarding is used, the name www.businessA.com can optionally stay in the web browser – in other words the website visitor will not see www.yourbusinessname.com/business, but instead the actual web address, yourbusinessnameA.com.

As you can see from the examples you may want to use the sub-site feature that allows you to create multiple sub-sites, folders or websites.  How many ways can you think of to use sub-sites?

How To Create A Sub-Site:  After you have created and published your first main website, and from the first login screen, click “Create a New Site” or click  “All My Sites”, then “Create a New Site.”   Now begin creating a new sub-site by choosing the same look and feel you already created in your first website or a choose a completely new look.   When you create a sub-site, this sub-site will have a new and separate navagation area.

After you create the sub-site click the "Publish Site" button at the bottom of your screen.  Just before the sub-site publishes you will be directed to name your sub-site to "piggy-back" off your existing primary web address.  In this example we'll name it, yourbusinessname.com/membersonly.  (Membersonly is the sub-site).  Once the site publishes successfully, visitors can now find your sub-site by entering yourbusinesname.com/membersonly in their web-browser.  You now created a sub-site, (folder) or depending on how you use it, a new “website”, which brings us to example 2 below.

Sub-Sites are a very powerful feature of website creator!
